As part of the Manga Classic Literature (Koten Bungaku) series, Ikeda adapts for manga the tale of the bamboo cutter. This is a Japanese folk-tale dating from the 10th century. One day, an old and childless bamboo cutter discovers a child inside a glowing bamboo plant. The child grows up into a beautiful lady, Kaguya Hime (Princess Kaguya) and the news of her unusual beauty spreads around...

The story is set in Providence, Rhode Island, which is author H. P. Lovecraft's home town and a common setting in his books.
